Frequently Asked QuestionsQ. Do you offer programming? A. Yes we offer programming on both the equipment we sell and to customers with existing radio equipment. Please contact us for programming quote. Q. Do I need to program the radio to work? A. Yes. Generally all commercial grade radios are programmable via special computer software and cable. Even if you buy the same model that does not necessary mean that the radios will communicate on the same channels. Each channel represents a frequency and both frequency information have to be exactly the same for the radios to work. Most customers custom program their radios when they buy them to reduce interference or to work with the system. When buying a used radio chances are it has the previous users programming still in it. Please contact us if you need programming help. Q. Will my radios work with radios you sell? A. This all depends on which model radio you are using. The first question to answer is are you using the same frequency band. The most popular bands are high VHF 136-174mhz and UHF 403-470mhz. Please contact us for details since this can get a little tricky. Q. Should I buy UHF or VHF? A. There are a lot of variables to this questions, but the simplest answer would be if you are going to used the radios primarily outdoors then VHF and if you are going to use the radio indoor and outdoor then UHF. Please contact us for more details. Q. How far do radios work? A. This is a very difficult question to answer since it all varies on your application, equipment and terrain. Radios are rated by how many watts they have which has a lot to do with the overall range of the radio. The most powerful VHF handheld radio is about 5 watts and the most powerful UHF handheld radio is 4 watts. If you need a lot of range you defiantly need to get the model that has the most power in UHF or VHF. Radios can transmit and receive anywhere from 1 city block all the way up to 8 miles on clear line of sight. On average the high power handheld radios have about a 1-2 mile range.
